Common Conditions Service at Cobh Pharmacy

Cobh Pharmacy is pleased to offer the new Common Conditions Service, providing convenient access to treatment for a range of everyday health concerns.

Following additional accredited training and under legislation introduced by the Minister for Health, our pharmacists are now authorised to prescribe certain prescription-only medicines for specific common conditions — without the need for a GP appointment, where appropriate.

Under this service, our pharmacists can assess and prescribe treatment for:

This service represents an important step in improving patient access to timely care while helping to reduce pressure on GP services.

Eligibility Criteria

Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria apply to each condition, as set out by the Department of Health. These guidelines ensure that patients are treated safely and appropriately within the scope of the service.

If a patient does not meet the criteria, they will be advised and referred to their GP for further assessment and management.

Consultation Fee

Please note that a consultation fee of €30.00 applies to this service. This fee is payable by all patients, including those with a Medical Card, those under the Drug Payment Scheme, and private patients.

If medicine is supplied, it may be covered under your Medical Card, Drugs Payment Scheme (DPS), or Long Term Illness Scheme (LTI), where applicable.

Important Information

Not all conditions or patients will be suitable for this service.

You will only be treated under the Common Conditions Service when it is clinically appropriate and safe to do so. If your symptoms fall outside the service criteria, your pharmacist will advise you on the most appropriate next step.
